Hey everyone,

Just wanted to say "hello!" I moved to New Jersey from Maine a few months ago (it was quite the culture shock) and will be in the area for a few years as I am attending seminary. I'm a United Methodist but am playing Episcopal for the year for fun and to expand my general knowledge base. So far, it's been a blast!

That's about it. Looking forward to meeting you all!

*New York Tri-State Area* [Apr. 12th, 2005|08:26 pm]

Oftentimes, people want to share their Christian faith with other people...but have no clue on how to do it, without seeming, well, insane. Some people need a refresher on what the "mere essentials" of the Faith contain...but either don't have the time (or money) to go to a class.

Of course, if I'm typing this, I've got some sort of solution...at least for people in the NYC area.

The Billy Graham Evangelical Association (BGEA) is Christian Life and Witness Courses in the greater New York/New Jersey metro area. The courses are FREE and there are no expectations for assisting at the Crusade. What's important, in their mind, is that people who are on-fire with the Gospel reach others with the saving message of Jesus Christ.

You can download a schedule here. The BGEA tried to make it so if you miss one class, you can make it up at a different location on a different day.

IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE READ BEFORE RESPONDING!

This is an announcement, not an all-out endorsement of Evangelical Christianity. I'll, most likely, be saying the Rosary after I type this...so that's gotta tell you something. My home parish, which is helping with the Crusade, is a catholic parish. I will not be mistaken for a free-churcher any time soon. However, in this day where the only "Jesus" people know is a media-designed caricature, I think it's worth working together with all my Christian brothers and sisters—more now than ever. So, if you need to say "well, I don't agree with him/the Crusade/dogs because of X," ignore this message, peace be with you, etc.

I'll be attending, most likely, at the nondenominal church in Montclair...so there is a meet-up opportunity to boot.

And thank you for your prayers...they are such a relief.

*x-posted* House Church in Madison, NJ [Nov. 28th, 2004|07:58 pm]

I'm merely noting this as a slight announcement, slight reminder for myself. After Mass today, Fr. Brian said that we're looking to start a "house church" in Madison, NJ, as a branch-out of St. Anthony's ministry. There's going to be an organisation meeting at St. Luke's REC in New Providence, to suss out the form of the new cell group. Worship will obviously be orthodox in preaching and doctrine and as Anglo-Catholic as one can be in a house church, presumably according to the Anglican Service Book.

If folks are looking for an orthodox Anglican group to worship with in the greater Morris area, this might be a good place to suggest. And this seems like it could be a wonderful ground-up opportunity to develop a new parish.

I have no idea on the particulars, other than the fact that this is an incredibly exciting opportunity, and I hope to be involved in it as much as I can be.

More details will follow...

Happy holidays from the Home of the First Christmas Tree [Nov. 22nd, 2004|11:38 am]

Greetings from Riga Latvia Northern/Eastern Europe. Growing up in the State of Washington, I have fond memories of Christmas time. Snow, family get togethers, cutting the Chtistmas Tree, ice skating on the frozen ponds and going out with my facter in the fire truck playing Christmas music over load speakers on top of the truck.

Now I am living in Latvia which looks very much like Washington State.

I just wanted to share that the first record of a Christmas Tree was in the city of Riga Latvia in the year 1510

Happy holidays to all.

Not Just a Jersey Girl...A Christian Jersey Girl [Aug. 15th, 2004|09:29 pm]

Hello fellow Garden Staters! It's been a long week for us with our Governor's announcement about his sexuality and resignation. Please pray for him and his family.

I am a 26 y/o Catholic woman from Woodbridge - Middlesex County. I don't know what your definition of "Northern New Jersey" is (I once dated a man from Morristown who once told me that I lived in Southern New Jersey...."it's south of me"...LOL) but I'm north of Trenton, if that counts for anything.

It's nice to have a Christian community for us Jersey girls and guys. Looking forward to being a part of this and hope to hear from all of you soon!

i was happy to see so many ppl joined blessedvirgin and I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE the creation of a community devoted entirely to Our Lord in the Most Blessed Sacrament, holyeucharist.

the Holy Father has said, "The best, the surest and the most effective way of establishing peace on the face of the earth is through the great power of Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament." the establishment of peace in our world is now more important than ever, so please show your love for the Hidden Jesus by participating in this community.

'It is there in His Eucharist that He says to me: "I thirst, thirst for your love, your sacrifices, your sufferings. I thirst for your happiness, for it was to save you that I came into the world, that I suffered and died on the Cross, and in order to console and strengthen you I left you the Eucharist. So you have there all My life, all My tenderness."'

about homosexual marriages *cross-posted from my own journal* [Jul. 8th, 2004|08:52 pm]

who knew i could be political? hee hee... but this is serious. and time is running out. if you do not live in NJ i'll ask you for all your prayers. thanks!

i'm only filtering this because i don't feel like dealing with the nonsense from those who approve of homosexual activity in general. i love those who still are engaged in such acitivity but i hate the sin. all i can do is pray for them.

but... i digress...

the reason for this posting is remind those of you who may be in NJ or know people who live in NJ that a vote is coming up in our Senate. they will be voting on whether or not to approve the marriage of homosexuals in NJ.

families have been breaking down for years and the offspring have shown it more than anything else. the effects of divorce and lack of either a mother or father affects a child immensely. we need to do what we can to keep this bill or act or whatever from going through.

please email or call Senators Lautenberg and Corzine of NJ to let them know that this is not acceptable. here are the websites to reach them:

the vote is on monday i believe so please call or email them by tomorrow. sorry for such short notice but those of you not in NJ who will support this, i ask that you keep NJ in your prayers since we need all the prayers we can get.

Christians need to unite nationwide but right now the fight is in NJ!!

i thank you all for your prayers. Christians throughout NJ thank you!!

It's official. I just got off the phone. I'm back on the dole! Whoo hoo!

Of course, I'm being slightly facaetious. However, if this doleful time is for the better good, then I'm happy to be on the dole.

I'll, most likely, be meeting up tomorrow afternoon with Father to discuss the possibility of schooling. Tonight, it's the Spanish and English healing masses.

And, just thinking...I have been wanting to do something Christian-like in North Jersey for quite some time now. And, if there is interest, I would love to plan, perhaps, a little prayer-group meeting at St. Anthony's Church. We could do the Office, get some food and wine, and b.s. afterward. It would be a nice evening to talk about Things That Matter. Most people who are in nnj_christians are in my journal anyhow, but I'll cross-post regardless. If this is something you'd like, (AND YOU LIVE IN THE NORTH JERSEY AREA), let me know so I can plan it with Fr. Brian.

And now, I eat left overs, jog, and do 8-minute Abs.
